When I Need to Remember God’s Grace

Are you ever just completely overwhelmed by the grace of God in your life? I am.

I’ve made so many, many mistakes. Some were unintentional, an accident of misinformation and misguided notions of what I should do. Others were the rebellion of an all too stubborn and willful heart.

For so long, I struggled to figure out who I was and to identify my place in the world. At times, I felt as if I were forever battling enemies, both within and without.

Then I met God. Or, perhaps I should more rightly say, God stepped into my life and rescued me. And while the rescue is infinitely priceless, life- and eternity-changing, the part that truly changed my heart is this: Because He delighted in me.

Because God delighted in me, His mercy washed me clean and His grace delivered me into this broad and spacious life with Him.

Oh, the mistakes are still made, and the struggles still occasionally rear their ugly heads, but now I know there is God. And there is His goodness and grace.

For me and for you.

So, will you join me in remembering that goodness and grace?

To Pray:

Lord, I know where I should be.

I remember all too well the things I’ve done and said—the things that still make me wince and cringe with regret. I know the massive mistakes I’ve made. And I remember the times I dared to declare I knew better than You . . . and then discovered too late how little I knew.

Yes, You and I both know where I should be. Right smack in the middle of the mess I made for myself.

But I’m not.

Because You reached down and rescued me.

With infinite mercy, incomprehensible grace, and unending love, You’ve blessed me with this life and these people that I do not deserve.

You’ve set me down in this broad and spacious place, this lovely life.

Where I can breathe.

Where I can make amends and begin anew.

Where my every breath can be a living praise to You—my Rescuer, my Abba, my Lord.

Help me leave the past where it belongs—with You. And help me remember Your grace.

Amen.
