Paul and Timothy: The Power of Investment

Think about the difference between addition and multiplication. If Paul had only preached sermons, thousands would have heard the gospel. But because he invested in Timothy, the message multiplied far beyond Paul’s lifetime.

Paul calls Timothy his “true son in the faith” (1 Tim. 1:2). He didn’t just give Timothy information; he gave him his life. Timothy saw Paul’s tears, his prayers, his courage, and his failures. Through this relationship, Timothy became a pastor, leader, and missionary who carried the gospel further than Paul could on his own.

This is why ministry to youth and students is never wasted time. A student you mentor today might become a missionary tomorrow. The young woman you pray with might become a Nobel laureate or an Oscar winner twenty years from now. The young man you disciple might become the prime minister long after you’re gone.

The truth is: sermons inspire, but relationships transform. The church doesn’t just need more programs—it needs more Pauls who will invest in Timothys. Students' ministry is not about keeping students busy; it’s about shaping lives that will shape the world.

So, here’s the challenge: Who is your Timothy? And who is your Paul? None of us are meant to walk alone. The gospel spreads when it is handed down from one life to another, one generation to the next.

Reflection: Who is investing in me spiritually? Who am I investing in right now?

Action Step: Choose one younger believer and make an intentional step toward them this week—invite them for coffee, read Scripture together, or simply ask how they’re doing spiritually. Start building a relationship that points them to Jesus.
