The Ministry Table

DAY 26 OF 30

Into the Unknown

Have you ever stepped into a season that felt uncertain? A new job, a ministry assignment, a relationship shift, or even a life transition you didn’t ask for? Joshua knew that feeling. Moses, the great leader of Israel, was gone. Suddenly, Joshua had to lead a new generation into the Promised Land. The task was intimidating. The people were untested. The future was unknown.

Joshua didn’t have Moses’ staff, his record of miracles, or decades of leadership. But Joshua had something greater, God’s promise of His presence. The Lord said, “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you.” What Moses had in miracles, Joshua would have in God’s abiding presence.

This truth speaks to us today. What we lack in resources, experience, or certainty, God makes up for it with Himself. When we face the unknown, the real question isn’t “Do I have enough?” but “Am I walking with God, who is more than enough?”

Joshua’s story shows us that courage is not the absence of fear. But it is faith in motion, choosing to move forward even when afraid, because God is with us. Joshua didn’t have to become Moses; he only had to be strong, courageous, and obedient to God’s Word.

And that’s true for you and me. You may feel underprepared, overlooked, or outmatched. But the God who split the Red Sea for Moses is the same God who stopped the Jordan for Joshua. AND He is the same God who walks with you today.

When Joshua stepped into leadership, God gave him a clear command to meditate on His Word day and night, and not to turn from it to the left or right. That was Joshua’s anchor in the unknown, and it is ours too. The presence of God is not just a feeling; it is sustained by listening to His Word, clinging to His promises, and obeying His voice.

Every major shift in life will test your faith, but it also reveals your foundation. Will you lean on your own strength, or will you trust the God who never leaves? The unknown may feel overwhelming, but it is often the very place where God reveals Himself most clearly. Just as Joshua discovered, God’s presence is enough to carry you into every new season and every uncharted path.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for promising to never leave me nor forsake me. When I face the unknown, help me to trust Your presence more than my fears. Give me the courage to step forward in faith, knowing You are with me every step of the way. Amen.

About this Plan

The Ministry Table

The Ministry Table is a 30-day devotional plan created by and for ministry leaders. Each day, you’ll hear from a different pastor, leader, or ministry practitioner — voices from many churches, traditions, and places — offering encouragement, challenge, and wisdom drawn from their own walk with Jesus. Together, these reflections form a shared table of daily bread: a space where leaders can be fed, strengthened, and reminded that we’re not walking this road alone.
