SteadfastSample

As we talked yesterday, Jesus is our anchor. He is the One we anchor ourselves to and fix our eyes on. As we look to Him and stay connected to Him, He will steady us.
But there are other ways we can also learn to become steadfast.
There’s a story in 1 Samuel 30 that talks about David. David was a man that God had chosen to become the king, but at this point in David’s life, he had been anointed and chosen, but hadn’t become king yet. He was actually running for his life, because Saul – the man who was currently king – was hunting him down to kill him.
In the midst of David fleeing for his life, he and his men ended up coming back to their town only to discover that a group of people had raided them and taken the women and children as hostages. It was a dire and terrifying situation. David’s men turn on him, blaming him for this tragedy.
But look at verse six: David found strength in God.
In what possibly could have been the worst time of his life – David was actually strengthened.
What’s important to note is that David didn’t find strength through willpower or gritting his teeth or trying harder. He found strength in God. David went to God, and God strengthened him.
You can actually be strengthened.
And this is important for us to remember, because so many of us wrestle with staying in a place of woundedness. But even in the midst of pain, God has strength to offer.
As we see in David’s story, before anything changed, David went to God and found strength in Him. And then—out of that place of being strengthened—God gave David the wisdom and courage to lead his men into battle, and God helped them recover everything that had been taken.
That’s what being steadfast looks like—it’s not pretending everything is okay, and it’s not ignoring the reality of hardship. It’s choosing to root yourself in God’s presence when everything else feels shaky.
Steadfastness doesn’t come from never being shaken—it comes from knowing where to go when we are shaken. And when we go to God, He doesn’t just tell us to “try harder”—He strengthens us. He anchors us. He steadies us.
So here’s the question for you: when life feels heavy or uncertain, where will you turn?
This week, what would it look like for you to find your strength in God the way David did? Maybe it’s opening your Bible before you scroll your phone. Maybe it’s being honest with God in prayer about what’s really weighing on you. Maybe it’s choosing to reach out to a friend who will point you back to Jesus instead of just distracting you.
Whatever it looks like, don’t miss this: you don’t have to carry the weight on your own. You can be strengthened—right here, right now—by the God who is your anchor.
