10. He Will Do This
How: God’s plans are carried out by Him
Lectio. “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this.” (Psalm 37:5, NIV – read Ps. 37:1–9).
Meditatio. In the opening and closing verses of this section, the psalmist exhorts us not to fret or envy the wicked. In between, he presents four positive attitudes: trust in the Lord and do good, take delight in Him, commit your way to Him, and rest in Him.
Oratio. When it seems that the wicked get what they want and achieve their plans, pray to see reality with spiritual eyes. Commit your life to God and ask Him to fulfill His plans in you. That will be infinitely better.
Contemplatio. Look at the fields, covered with green grass. See how they quickly wither when the season changes. Now contemplate a tree planted by streams of water—firm, fruitful, and lasting. That is God’s plan for you.
Confessio. I often say I want to dream God’s dreams, for only His dreams come true. I believe this: what God wants and plans is better. But living according to His plans requires me to let go of my own.
