Help My Unbelief

This father's heart was shattered into a million pieces. For years, he'd watched helplessly as seizures ravaged his child's body. The violent episodes came without warning, throwing his precious boy to the ground, making him foam at the mouth, sometimes hurling him dangerously close to fire or water. Every attack felt like watching his child die a little more.

He'd tried everything. Every doctor, every remedy, every desperate prayer whispered in the dark. Hope had become dangerous. Something that lifted him up only to crush him down when nothing changed. By the time he brought his son to Jesus' disciples, his faith was hanging by the thinnest thread. And when they couldn't help either, that thread nearly snapped.

Then Jesus appeared, and suddenly this broken father found himself face-to-face with his last hope. But when Jesus said, "Everything is possible for one who believes," the words hit him like a physical blow. Believe? Oh, how he wanted to believe with mountain-moving faith. But all he had left were scattered fragments of a heart disappointed too many times.

So he did the most honest thing imaginable. He cried out the prayer that lives in so many of our hearts: "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" It was confession and plea wrapped together. .This was the raw honesty of someone who wanted to trust God completely but felt his faith trembling like something too fragile to hold.

Friend, maybe you know exactly how this father felt. Perhaps you've been carrying a prayer for so long that hope feels dangerous and faith feels fragile. Maybe you've watched God answer other people's prayers while yours seem to echo in empty space, and you wonder if you're believing hard enough, faithful enough.

This father's broken prayer gives you permission to bring your struggling heart to Jesus exactly as it is. You don't have to pretend your faith is stronger than it feels or fix your doubt before approaching Him. He sees your desire to believe, even when belief feels impossible, and that's enough for Him to work with.

Jesus didn't hesitate. He immediately healed the boy, not because the father's faith was perfect, but because his honest heart had brought him to the right place.
