When Trust Becomes TestimonySample

When Doubt Creeps In
Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24, NIV)
During prolonged times of suffering, we can start asking questions about God. What we’ve read in His Word may not line up with what we’ve experienced. Fear brings thoughts we’d rather sweep away. What we go through in the dark can dampen our childlike faith and bring a wrestling with what we’ve known.
Even the most faithful examine questions that rise in the dark: Does God hear me? Can I really trust Him here?
We can begin to doubt what we’ve believed, but God isn’t shocked by our admission that we may be questioning. Faith and doubt can exist in the same breath. That’s honesty. No matter how long we’ve walked with God or trusted in Him, it’s okay for us to say we don’t know. Like the father in the Scripture who longed for his son’s healing, we too can cry, “I do believe, help my unbelief!”
God meets us in the middle of our fragile faith. He can handle our questions, our accusations, and our wavering. Doubt can drive us deeper to God as we share honestly with Him about what our hearts are dealing with.
The truth for today is: God can take our doubts. He wants us to know Him more.
Prayer:
Lord, I love You, but I have doubts. Life has hurt me, and there are things that happen that don’t make sense. Hold space for my questions and help my unbelief. Amen.
Reflection Question:
What doubt can you bring honestly before God today?
