Devotional
This Bible passage is a tricky one–a big list of names. Did you know this is basically Jesus’ family tree? It shows us who Jesus’ father was, then his grandfather and great grandfather and great-great grandfather and so on! Kind of cool, right?
You might recognize some of the names in Jesus’ family tree, like Jacob or David. This family tree starts with Abraham. Abraham lived about 2000 years before Jesus was born. But in Genesis Chapter 17, God tells Abraham that he will have a son, Isaac. God says, "...I will make an everlasting promise to him and his descendants" (Genesis 17:19, CEV). God promised that he would send someone special, someone who belonged in this family.
God had planned for over 2000 years for the birth of Jesus. His birth was a part of God’s big plan–a plan to save all people, including you and me!
