Solomon’s Window Lattice
"For at the window of my house I looked through my lattice, And saw among the simple, I perceived among the youths, A young man devoid of understanding." (Proverbs 7:6–7)
It’s amazing what God allows us to see by total accident. Here Solomon doesn’t appear to be openly spying, but casually gazing out through the casement of his window, when he sees a young man lacking in common sense, walking to the house of an adulterous woman. I think we’ve all seen people’s eyes wander, and it shocks us because we realize how wicked it looks to others. Ask any woman, and she will tell you how uncomfortable it can be when “I can feel his eyes on me.” Many a young person has been caught by their parents watching pornography when they least expected it. Many a husband has been caught by his wife lusting after another woman. I even know tragic stories of people who have caught their spouse in bed with someone else. Hagar rightly said, “You are the God who sees me” (Gen. 16:13, NIV). "The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good" (Prov. 15:3).
Let the fact that our sin never goes unnoticed thrust a godly fear in our hearts. You never know who might be watching you when you’re watching others. Even if you’re smarter than everyone else and never get caught, do you think you will escape God when you stand before Him at the judgment seat of Christ?
