Money is not just a man’s world. Today, women control more and more of the world’s wealth. Women own fifty-one percent of all personal wealth in the United States.[1]Ninety-five percent of women will be, at some point in their life, the primary financial decision-maker for their family.[2] One study reported that women are more likely to give and give higher amounts on average than men across most income levels. Findings showed women in the highest income brackets give almost twice as much as their male counterparts.[3]

Our lives can feel vastly different from those of our mothers or grandmothers. We have new challenges and responsibilities. We also have an unprecedented opportunity to leverage wealth of every kind for the sake of God’s kingdom. Four key things can help any woman thrive and lead a life of generosity that impacts eternity. Let’s examine the first today. We’ll cover the remaining three in the coming days.

Vision

It starts with vision. Vision answers the question: Why am I here, and what is my purpose? How does my life connect to something bigger?

Our world tells women the pathway to happiness is found in a picture-perfect house, fabulous clothes, exhilarating experiences, or an impressive resumé. Comfort, beauty, and accomplishments are the gold medals we’re told every woman should run to win. The problem is that when we pursue a vision centered on ourselves, we start to get wrapped up in fear and anxiety. We rely on ourselves and continuously compare our lives to those around us. Focusing on these things allows obstacles to grow in our minds into huge, even insurmountable, waves. We get pulled further from peace and purpose. But we know the one who has the power to calm any storm and even walk across unwieldy waves.

God loves women and made us for a much bigger vision. Women were God’s grand finale at creation, his exclamation point at the end of a six-day sentence. Made in God’s image, women are called “very good” by the author of life himself.

Women are beautifully unique from men, yet equally invited to join God’s big story. God’s vision for women is to walk by faith and not by sight, to live in light of eternity, and to give our lives away for God’s glory and others’ good. He offers us roles in a global and eternal love story he is writing! This is life, the true path to joy.
