Made for More: 30 Days of Experiencing More Life, Love, and FreedomSample

Day 2: The Offer is Life
The Scriptures speak of life more than 500 times. In the New Testament alone there are 229 references. It's not just a theme—it’s the central offer of the Gospel. Whichever Gospel path we’ve walked to get here, wherever we’ve come from, the invitation is the same: Life.
C.S. Lewis, in his classic Mere Christianity, makes a powerful distinction between two kinds of life:
In reality, the difference between Biological life and Spiritual life is so important that I am going to give them two distinct names. The Biological sort which comes to us through nature, and which (like everything else in nature) is always tending to run down and decay so that it can only be kept up by incessant subsidies from nature in the form of air, water, food, etc., is Bios.
The Spiritual life which is in God from all eternity, and which made the whole natural universe, is Zoe (pronounced Zo-weh, like Yahweh).
Bios has, to be sure, a certain shadowy or symbolic resemblance to Zoe; but only the sort of resemblance there is between a photo and a place, or a statue and a man. A man who changed from having Bios to having Zoe would have gone through as big a change as a statue which changed from being carved stone to being a real man.
And that is precisely what Christianity is about. The world is a great sculptor’s shop. We are the statues, and there is a rumor going around the shop that some of us are someday going to come to LIFE.”
That picture is beautiful—and it’s biblical.
The life Jesus came to offer isn’t just about surviving, it’s about coming alive. Not just Bios, but Zoe—the very type of life C. S. Lewis is talking about–the life of God–flowing in you and through you.
In John 10:10, Jesus says:
I have come that they may have life (Zoe) and have it to the full.
Another translation says, “have it abundantly.” This is not a life of striving, pressure, or performance. It is life with God—intimate, rich, real, and unitive. There is a vigilance to it, as well. Like anything that needs to be nurtured and tended to, this life with God requires something from us–our ongoing consent and participation.
This kind of life wasn’t available before Jesus and the coming of the Holy Spirit. But now it is. It’s not just a future promise—it’s a present invitation. In Christ, we come alive. And in Christ, we are invited to learn how to live—how to walk with God, how to hear from Him, how to live loved and increasingly more free.
Zoe is experiential. You don’t just read about it, you live it, practice it, and even offer it.
You can read about the Grand Canyon, but it’s nothing like standing on the edge and taking it in with your own eyes. You can look at photos of a horse, but that’s not the same as brushing its coat, placing the saddle, and going for a ride.
Likewise, you can hear about God all day long—but nothing compares to hearing from Him, walking with Him, laughing with Him, being cared for by Him, and experiencing His love firsthand.
This is the life Jesus came to give.
Not just a better version of Bios, but a brand-new kind of life altogether.
Zoe. Life in God, and God in you.
You were made for it.
You were meant to come alive.
And the invitation is still open:
Come and live.
As you reflect on all this with God today, consider asking:
What do you feel is the most meaningful part of your life with God?
What would you like to see different in your relationship with God?
Father, is there one phrase or sentence that feels like it’s just for me today? Would You help me hear it clearly and understand why it matters?
