Faith Formation Framework Series 3: Faith Applied Through Service and Justice

DAY 2 OF 5

Discovering Purpose

Focus

Breath Prayer: “You made me for good.”

Listen

Scripture: Ephesians 2:10 (NRSV)
"For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life."

Reflection:
Every young person carries within them gifts and longings placed there by God. The question many wrestle with—"Do I matter?"—is answered in the call to purpose. When we help young people discover how their abilities and passions can meet the world’s needs, we are offering them something holy: a glimpse of their calling. God’s purpose isn’t reserved for the distant future; it begins now, in simple acts of kindness, courage, and justice. Purpose is not only for personal success but for the flourishing of others—a reflection of God’s deep care for all creation.

Apply

How can you encourage a young person to use their unique gifts to serve others this week?

Respond

Creator God, awaken your purpose in young people. Help me see their gifts as you see them and guide them to live in the purpose you have prepared.

About this Plan

Faith Formation Framework Series 3: Faith Applied Through Service and Justice

Faith becomes real when it moves beyond words and into action. This third part of the Faith Formation Framework invites us to guide young people toward a faith that engages the world—meeting real needs, serving with compassion, and seeking justice. When youth discover that their gifts, voices, and presence can make a difference, they begin to live out their faith in powerful ways. Adults are called not only to serve these youth but to serve alongside them, embodying a faith that is active, courageous, and rooted in love.
