Rediscovering God's Heart for Leadership

DAY 3 OF 5

When God Speaks Through Science — Seeing Him in General Revelation

"For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made." Romans 1:20 (NIV)

Have you ever stood at the edge of a mountain or stared up into a night sky full of stars and
just . . . known? Known, deep in your bones, that there is a Creator behind all this beauty? That’s what theologians call general revelation, the truth of God written into the world itself. Creation whispers His name. Science, psychology, and even leadership theory all echo His wisdom, and we will hear it if we listen with ears to hear.

Leadership Lessons in the Lab?

It may sound strange, but you can learn about God by observing leaders and how they lead. Research shows that people thrive under leaders who are secure, emotionally intelligent, authentic, and relational. Followers grow when they are seen and supported. If you are a reader of the Bible, this will sound familiar. Jesus embodied all these things. He noticed people, spoke truth gently, and balanced strength with compassion. He invited belonging and built trust. He empowered others to lead. God wired the world to work best when we lead like Him. So, when researchers—Christian or not—discover that healthy leadership includes humility, empathy, or security, they are brushing up against how God designed people to function.

Discerning the Source

Now, this does not mean we unquestioningly accept every theory or trend. God’s truth is never in conflict with Scripture. However, as image-bearers, humans can discover glimpses of God’s design, even though they may not give God credit. Think of it like this: if God wrote the melody of creation, then even those who don’t know the Composer may still stumble upon His tune. As Christian leaders, we can discern what aligns with God’s truth and use it to bless others. We do not have to be afraid of learning from the world if we are anchored in the Word.

An Integrated Life of Learning

One of our greatest gifts is the ability to think deeply and lead wisely. Whether you are reading the Bible, listening to a leadership podcast, or studying neuroscience, you can look for the fingerprints of God. A truly Christlike leader is always growing by learning and listening—not just in church pews but also in classrooms, conversations, and creation. The Spirit of God is not limited by sacred spaces. He is already at work in the world—and He invites us to join Him.

A Thought to Ponder

God’s wisdom is vast, and sometimes He teaches through unexpected sources. What if your next leadership breakthrough came not from a church pulpit but a secular podcast or psychology book—filtered through Scripture and guided by the Spirit?

Prayer

Creator God, thank you for revealing yourself through creation, Scripture, and even through people who don’t yet know you. Please help me to be anchored in Your Word and grow in discernment. Give me eyes to see your truth in the world and the courage to lead in ways that reflect Your heart. Amen.

Reflection Questions

Where have you seen God’s wisdom in general revelation, perhaps in science, psychology, or everyday life? How might that truth help you lead more like Jesus?

About this Plan

Rediscovering God's Heart for Leadership

What if leadership is not just for the loudest voice or the person with the title? What if God designed every believer to lead—with courage, humility, and love? In this five-day devotional from Rebecca Sneller, you will explore God’s heart for leadership through the themes of the Imago Dei, the upside-down Kingdom, secure identity, and biblical mentoring. Whether you are leading a team, a classroom, a family, or simply influencing one person at a time, you will discover that godly leadership begins not with charisma but with Christlikeness. You were made to reflect Him. Let’s rediscover how.
