Who Are You Listening To?

“My sheep listen to my voice...” John 10:27 NLT

Did you know that God is always speaking? Speaking faith, speaking hope, speaking life. But we can slip into despair when life looks impossible, when things we hoped and dreamed for look unachievable and the enemy is whispering, “Just quit. Give it up.”

The Gospel of Mark talks about a “give it up” kind of situation. Jairus, the ruler of the Jewish synagogue, was frantic. His little girl was dying. Desperate, he pushed through the crowds and fell before Jesus, begging him to come and lay his hands on his daughter. He believed Jesus could save her when nothing else had.

Imagine the surge of relief and joy Jairus felt when Jesus agreed to go with him. But on the way, another desperate person interrupted their progress. Sick for 12 years, the woman had spent all she had on doctors with no improvement. Like Jairus, she had faith. If she could only touch the hem of Jesus’ clothes, she would be healed. When she touched Jesus’ robe, she was.

Even as her miracle happened, messengers from Jairus’s house arrived with horrible news. “‘Your daughter is dead,’ they said. ‘Why bother the teacher anymore?’”Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “‘Don’t be afraid. Just believe’” (Mark 5:35, 36 NIV).

You may be at a low point. The very real facts of life may be staring you in the face—impending bankruptcy, a foster child situation that’s not working out, a marriage that is failing.

But nothing is impossible with God. Jairus’s daughter was healed that day—miraculously brought back from the dead because her father believed the words of life instead of the “facts” of the matter.

Don’t be afraid. Listen closely for the Good Shepherd’s voice. Your miracle may look different than you first imagined, but God’s word is always “believe.” Today may be your miracle day.

Pray:“God, help me to hear your voice. Help me to have faith and believe for __________. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Seek: What miracle do you need? Seek God’s word for your situation, believe it, then speak it over your life.

Speak: I believe God’s word in my situation. I speak life!
