You're a new creation.

Early in my healing journey, I felt deep and pervasive shame as I became aware of ways I’d perpetuated generational dysfunction. I saw how my triggers and gut reactions, stemming from unhealed wounds in my soul, hurt those I loved. I knew how I didn’t want to behave, but the chasm between where I stood at that moment and where I wanted to be felt insurmountable. Then, one day, the Lord spoke hope into my discouragement by reminding me of who I was, because of His grace.

Yes, I still had numerous areas in need of growth and healing. But the old, self-destructive me was gone. Dead and buried. I was a new creation in the process of transformation. Reminding me of this irrefutable truth, Christ invited me to rise from the ashes of my brokenness and learn to walk in newness of life.

When shame invades your soul, hold tight to this truth: The old you is gone, never to return. You are a new creation. A radiant reflection of the Savior. May His words, not your inner critic, speak loudest.
