Day 1: Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing
In our churches, there is so much happening: programs, schools, charities, diocesan initiatives, that it can be easy to lose sight of what matters most. Even in our parishes, we can get caught up in the details of coffee and donuts, technology, and events. All of these things can be good and useful, but they are not the heart of our faith.
We can do the same in our life of faith, know the “stuff” of the Church, but forget the mission and purpose. If we’re not careful, we can be so busy with activity that we neglect the heart of it all: Jesus Christ.
Every effort of the Church, every act of service, every ministry and tradition exists to point us to Him. If we lose sight of Jesus, we have lost the main thing. Today, let this truth anchor you: our faith is not first about programs, traditions, or even good works. It is about knowing, loving, and serving the person of Jesus Christ and helping others do the same.
Questions
- What “good” things sometimes distract you from focusing on Jesus Himself?
- How can you realign your attention today so that Christ is at the center of your life and service?

About this Plan

Rebuilt Faith will help you take daily steps to grow as a disciple of Christ. Inspired by the book by Fr. Michael White and Tom Corcoran, this plan invites you to reflect on who Jesus is and why He is worth following. Through the STEPS of discipleship—Serve, Tithe and Give, Engage, Practice, and Share—you’ll discover practical ways to live your faith: serving others, trusting God’s provision, building authentic community, deepening prayer, and sharing the Gospel. Each devotional is designed to draw you closer to Christ and inspire you to take your next step in faith.
