Serving the Lord: God Wants to Use You - a 5 Day Devotional

DAY 4 OF 5

DAY 4 | GIVE FREELY

There are many ways to give. We can give our time, our energy, our talents, and our resources. It’s easy to say we believe God will provide, but something shifts when we start living that way. When we give freely, out of our love for the Lord, we’re making a quiet declaration about the character of God. We’re acknowledging that He sees that He cares, and that He’s the one who takes care of us. It is an act of trust.

Sometimes we hesitate to give because we’re afraid of running out. We think it would be easier to give later, when we have more or feel more secure. However, the Bible tells us that generosity isn’t about how much we have, but rather the posture of our hearts. Paul wrote,

“But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully” (2 Corinthians 9:6).

Giving willingly will free you from greed and self-centeredness. Holding onto our stuff can make us slaves to it, but letting go and trusting God as our provider brings freedom.

When we give, we also relinquish control. We stop measuring outcomes and start walking in faith. We may not always see how it works out, but we know God is faithful. He uses even the smallest offerings in ways we can’t fully understand. Whether we’re giving time, resources, or encouragement, He receives it and then multiplies it for His purposes. The life and ministry of Jesus shows us what it means to give freely. He gave without hesitation. He gave His attention, His strength, His compassion, and ultimately His life. That kind of love leads to that kind of giving. We don’t give to impress others or to earn something. We give because we’ve received so much already.

Giving also allows us to participate in God’s work. When we share all that we have received from the Lord, we transition from being spectators to active partners, and our focus shifts from temporary things to what truly matters for eternity.

I invite you to take a step today. Offer something to someone who needs it. Serve where you are. Give what you can. God isn’t asking for perfection; He’s asking for trust. And He will be faithful to use what you give to bring hope, healing, and grace to others.

GUIDED PRAYER:

Father, teach me to trust You with everything I have. Help me not to hold back, but to give with joy and confidence. Remind me that You are my provider, and that You use what I offer in ways far beyond what I can see.

Amen.
