DAY 5 OF 30

The Perfect Beginning

Walking with God in a Broken World

Genesis 5 reads like a long line of names and years, a list of lifespans stretching from Adam onward. Among so many names, one stands quietly apart: Enoch.

While the world already bore the marks of sin, Enoch chose a different path. He walked faithfully with God. His life did not bend to the chaos around him, but thrived in the closeness he nurtured with his Creator. Their intimacy was so deep that one day God took him home; he did not experience death.

Enoch’s story reminds us that even when the world feels broken, it is possible to keep walking with God, day by day, step by step. Faith does not always require grand gestures or dramatic moments. It grows through small, steady choices that keep us near God, in quiet trust and daily obedience.

We see the same pattern in the life of Brother Andrew, known as “God’s Smuggler.” During the Cold War, he risked his life carrying Bibles into countries where owning one could lead to imprisonment. Guards searched his car, borders were tightly closed, yet God made a way again and again. His courage did not come from a single bold moment; it flowed from a steady, daily walk with God, a trust built one step at a time, often invisible to others.

We are also invited to this kind of faithful walking. It may not involve danger or headlines, but it calls for the same commitment: to choose God daily, to listen, to trust, and to take the next small step forward, even when the path feels unclear.

I remember a season when daily walking with God felt most real for me. Our young son was diagnosed with leukaemia. Each day brought uncertainty, fear, and countless appointments. We could not see the whole journey. All we could do was take the next step, one day at a time.

God met us in those steps. In quiet provision, in guidance, and in moments of peace amidst the chaos, He reminded us that faith is lived moment by moment, choice by choice, in ordinary days as much as in extraordinary ones.

Like Enoch, we learn that walking with God does not promise a life without trials. It does promise His presence. He walks with us in each small decision, every act of trust, and in the ordinary rhythms of our lives. When we consistently take these small steps, our walk with God becomes a journey of deep intimacy, quiet strength, and unwavering hope.

Even when the world feels heavy and the way ahead seems unclear, God is walking with us, one faithful step at a time.

Reflection Question:

How can you keep walking with God, even when life feels painful or uncertain?

Prayer:

Lord, help me to trust You and keep walking faithfully by Your side, no matter what comes my way. May my life, like Enoch’s, show that You are always worth following. Amen.
