DAY 19 OF 30

Redemption Through Christ

The Cost of Redemption

The story of redemption is written in the scarred wood of a cross and in the unwavering heart of a loving Father. On the road to Calvary, Jesus carried more than a rough beam on His back; He had the weight of every betrayal, every denial, every sin of humanity. Falsely accused, beaten, mocked, and abandoned, He walked with quiet resolve. At any moment, He could have called down heaven’s armies, yet He chose obedience. Every lash, every wound, every drop of blood fell with purpose, love poured out so that we might live.

Maximilian Kolbe, a Catholic priest during the horrors of Auschwitz, mirrored this radical love in human terms. Even amid starvation, brutality, and despair, he continued to care for others. When a man was chosen to die, Kolbe offered his life in his place. In the darkness of the bunker, he led prayers and encouraged to foster hope. When he finally died, the man he saved went on to live, reunited with family and carrying Kolbe’s story into the world. Love that gives itself away cannot be contained; it multiplies, it redeems, it transforms lives.

I encountered this truth in a deeply personal and raw moment. During my son’s treatment, the nurses struggled repeatedly to find a vein. Four times the needle pierced his tiny arm. Four times, he writhed in pain. I could not bear it and ran from the room, collapsing in tears in a quiet hospital corner. Through my sobs, I cried: “How can I watch him suffer like this?”

In that hollow moment, God whispered: He had watched His Son suffer too. He sent Him into a world that rejected Him, sinless yet condemned, beloved yet crucified. He grieved as His Son bled on the cross, and yet He knew resurrection would follow. That awareness steadied me. If God could endure and redeem such pain, then I could cling to hope, too. The cross is not only Christ’s sacrifice but also the Father’s gift, a gift that brings healing, peace, and resurrection even in the midst of grief.

The cross reminds us that we are never abandoned. Redemption meets us in our brokenness and whispers that love has gone before us. We can walk through suffering with courage, knowing that grace has the final word. Even in the shadow of pain, God’s love is present, transforming heartbreak into hope and fear into trust.

Reflection Question:

How does selfless love impact your view of God?

Prayer:

Lord, help me grasp the depth of Your love. Teach me to trust You in my suffering, to love sacrificially, and to seek Your guidance when the world feels broken.
