One Week in Prayer 10-Day Devotional on Building a Consistent Habit of Daily Prayer

DAY 2 OF 10

Monday: Our Spouses & Children

Mondays can be busy and hectic and I like to start the week with a sense of peace. As the saying goes, “the morning shows the day” — and for me, Mondays determine the week.

That’s why I pray for my wife and children on Mondays. God has blessed me with a wonderful wife and three amazing children.

Why I Pray for My Spouse
The Bible reminds us that he who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.
Long before marriage, I decided to do everything possible to have a happy home. Growing up, I saw my parents handle disagreements without abuse, and I wanted to improve on that example.

My wife is intelligent, witty, passionate, beautiful, and loves God. A few years ago, she gave me Stormie Omartian’s The Power of a Praying Husband. At the time, I shelved it without reading. Later, when the Lord spoke to me about planning my prayer life, I rediscovered the book — and it changed the way I prayed for my family.

I realized that the more I prayed for her, the more I loved and appreciated her. Even our disagreements became easier to resolve. Prayer deepens love. If you’re in an unhappy marriage or tempted to give up, try praying. Stay committed, and you’ll be amazed at the transformation God can bring.

Prayer for My Wife:
Father, may my wife be a virtuous woman, faithful and fruitful. Uphold her, strengthen her, and let her fulfill Your purpose. May her light shine and her life bring glory to Your name. Amen.

Why I Pray for My Children
Children are a blessing from God.

I want my children to be protected, confident, and devoted to God — growing into purpose-filled adults who impact their generation. I pray they will know the Lord personally, just as young Samuel did, hearing His voice and following His leading even when I am not there.

Family moments — like when my kids rush to greet me at the door — remind me of God’s goodness. I want them to far exceed my achievements, walking in God’s plan for their lives.

Prayer for My Children:
Father, may my children excel in every area of life. Keep them healthy, fruitful, and filled with Your Spirit. Protect them, guide them, and let their lives be a shining example of godliness. Amen.

Reflection:
Who in your family needs your intentional prayers today? Take a few minutes to lift them up before God.
