Daily Encouragement

DAY 310 OF 366

This is a good text for missionaries! Most find encouragement in it, and rightly so. “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” (2 Cor. 1:20). However to regard this verse purely as one for missionaries is to miss its chief significance. For what we have here is not a promise to the missionary but a promise to those who support the missionary. Paul, the missionary, is speaking to the church which has supported him so well and is assuring them that God will supply their needs - “My God will meet all your needs.” We never cease to wonder at the amazing way in which the Lord supplies the needs of the men and women he sends forth. They understand Paul’s joy in receiving the gifts from Philippi and his estimate of them as “a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God” (Phil. 4:18). But equally amazing is the way he undertakes for those who care for those who are sent and communicate with them, giving so generously. Where is there a missionary-minded church or individual supporter whose needs have not been met?
