Daily EncouragementSample

What are the characteristics of a life worthy of the calling we have received? As outlined in this chapter, they have much to do with “the church which is his body” (Eph. 1:22-23).
Concern for the unity of his body (Eph. 4:1-6). The unity of the body of Christ is a reality - “There is one body.” It has to be recognized and guarded. Called to be part of that body, we will “make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit.” This is done most effectively not by concentrating on unity as such but by behaving in a way which strengthens that unity - “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love” (verse 2).
Concern for ministry in his body (verses 7-12). Ministry is a gift of grace, and ministers are a gift to the people of God. All members of the body are meant to be involved in ministry. The key role of ministers is “to prepare God’s people for works of service.” And the ultimate aim is the maturity and stability of the body. Active ministry is a significant mark of the life worthy of our calling.
To live a life worthy of our calling, then, is obviously not to walk alone; it involves the Church and our place in it.
