Daily EncouragementSample

That “God is faithful” is a foundation truth. It strengthens us in the hour of temptation - “he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear,” (1 Cor. 10:13). It will inspire our desire for sanctification - “The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it” (1 Thess. 5:24). It makes us sure that we shall persevere - “he will keep you strong to the end” (1 Cor. 1:8).
“God is faithful.” His call is effective - “those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified” (Rom. 8:30). His power to keep us is not some abstract force, it is personal. He commits us to “fellowship with his Son.” We go onto the end with him. We may fail, but he will not. “If we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself” (2 Tim. 2:13).
“God is faithful” - this is a word to remember as you face a church like that in Corinth. They were a critical, carnal, contentious crowd. Many a missionary has encouraged himself by reflecting that the church he is working with is not as bad as that one! It would have been easy for Paul to reckon that the church was at such a low ebb that he would be justified in abandoning it. However, God’s faithfulness keeps his servants faithful too, so Paul didn’t give up.
