DAY 129 OF 366

There can be no more beautiful picture of “the path of the righteous” than this. The beginning of their spiritual life is seen as a dawn, when God made his light shine in their hearts (2 Cor. 4:6), and its end is “the full light of day,” when they enter the heavenly home. “Shining ever brighter” - this should be the norm for those who are following “the light of the world” and who have “the light of life” (John 8:12). What an experience to have! What a testimony to give! What an impression to make, particularly as we grow old. It was said of the great preacher, Alexander McLaren, “those who observed him recognized that he drank from fountains older than the world. In his later years it seemed to be his supreme desire to obtain a fuller communion with God in Christ.” “The full light of day” - that is the climax of the pathway. “Sunrise and morning star” is nearer the truth than Tennyson’s “Sunset and evening star.” Paul speaks in many places of “that day” (2 Tim. 1:12, etc.). And what a day it will be! The alternative to the path of the righteous is stated in all its stark reality: “But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble” (Prov. 4:19).
