Romans 12
The Kind of Love That Disarms Darkness
There’s a kind of love that can’t be faked. Paul calls it out plainly: “Love must be sincere.” Not polished, not presented—genuine. It’s the kind of love that lives differently. The kind that weeps with those who weep. That honours others above itself. That clings to what is good when everything else feels dark.
This love is active. It’s gritty. “Never be lacking in zeal,” Paul says. “Keep your spiritual fervour.” That word “fervour” speaks of boiling over. Love isn’t cold religion—it’s heat, energy, persistence. It shows up in the hard moments.
And it goes even further—“Bless those who persecute you.” This love doesn’t just react with niceness—it responds with grace. It blesses when cursed. It forgives when wronged. Not because people deserve it, but because Jesus did it first.
There’s a story of someone mistreated, misrepresented—and choosing not to retaliate. Instead of posting about it or defending their name, they chose silence. Kindness. Peace. Not because they were weak, but because they were free. That’s what this kind of love looks like. It refuses to let bitterness win.
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” That’s not a slogan. That’s a lifestyle. And when we live this way, the world sees something it can’t explain.
