DAY 3 OF 60

Romans 1
A Bold Declaration of Faith

Paul sets a powerful tone in Romans chapter one by boldly declaring his confidence in the message of Christ. He writes, "I am not ashamed of the gospel," highlighting the courage it took to proclaim this message, especially in Rome—the cultural and intellectual hub of the ancient world. Paul's conviction challenges us today. He wasn't hesitant or embarrassed; instead, he confidently proclaimed that the gospel was nothing less than "the power of God."

This good news, Paul insists, isn't merely good advice or a helpful life philosophy. It's transformative—it brings salvation to everyone who believes, no matter their background or heritage. This was a revolutionary idea, especially in Rome, a city filled with sophisticated philosophies and powerful ideologies. Yet Paul asserted that the message of Christ, seemingly foolish or weak by human standards, was actually God's power at work.

The gospel, Paul tells us, reveals how we become right with God. This right-standing isn't earned through human effort or religious performance. Instead, it's given freely by grace and received through faith alone. As Paul famously wrote, "It is through faith that a righteous person has life." The simplicity of believing and trusting God was—and still is—the cornerstone of Christian life.

Paul’s confidence in the gospel calls believers today to examine our own stance. Are we hesitant, or are we confidently sharing this powerful message with those around us?
