Day 5: The Fire Within

“So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” -Luke 11:13 (NLT)

What a gift it is to live under the New Covenant and have direct access to the Holy Spirit! In Old Testament times, Scripture wasn’t widely available, and the Holy Spirit didn’t dwell within every believer. But today, as the Church, we live in a remarkable time. Let’s reflect on how the Holy Spirit is a precious gift from God.

“Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit’” (Acts 2:38 NIV).

Paul encouraged Timothy:
“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God” (2 Timothy 1:6a NIV).

The way the Holy Spirit works in each of us is unique. Just as God created you with a one-of-a-kind personality to reflect His image, the Spirit distinctly shines through you.

Let’s use these gifts to serve others and honor God.
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace” (1 Peter 4:10 NIV).
“So in Christ we, though many, form one body… We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us” (Romans 12:5–6 NIV).

Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit: "What gifts have You given me?"

Reflect on a time you used one of those gifts.

What does it mean to “fan into flame” the gift of God?

What spiritual gifts do you see in your children?

How can you help fan their gifts into flame?

Ask the Holy Spirit how He wants you to use your gifts, and journal what He shows you.

Father God, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Show us how to fan it into flame so Your fire burns brightly in us—for Your glory. Amen!
