Beyond the BattlefieldSample

“In God We Trust” is in our pledge of allegiance, our national anthem, and on our money. It’s easy to say, easy to sing about, and easy to read. But it’s not always easy to live. What happens when you get a grim diagnosis or your boss says your position is being eliminated? Will you still trust God if you come home and discover your spouse has moved out? David experienced his fair share of anxiety, sorrow, and pain. Just because he loved the Lord doesn’t mean his life was easy. David wrote Psalm 56 while fearing for his life.

Fear turns into faith when we place our trust in God. Turning to friends, family, and experts is not a bad thing, but turning to God is the best thing. Our perspective changes as we stop focusing on how big our problem is and start looking at how big our God is. Like David, we’ll find our faith grows as we remember God is for us, declare God’s goodness, and recall His promises. In the face of a scary diagnosis, a job loss, or a broken marriage, we are not alone. God does not leave us or forsake us. But it’s okay to feel like He has. Sometimes we have to fight to put our trust in God, in good times and bad. And after doing that enough times, we’ll begin to see how deeply He cares for us and how He really can work all things together for our good and His glory.
