Matthew's Journey: 'Mercy Mends' (Part 2)Sample

Meeting Jesus in Our Brokenness
One of the most radical truths about Jesus is that He doesn’t avoid sinners—quite the contrary… He seeks them out, hangs out with them, calls them friends. While religious leaders often distanced themselves from "unclean" people (today, as well as in Jesus’ days), Jesus did the opposite. He walked toward them, ate with them, and called them into something greater.
In The Chosen (Season 1, Episode 7), we see Matthew’s moment of calling. The Pharisees are scandalized that Jesus would associate himself with such an outcast. A traitor, a rotten tax collector for the enemy! But Jesus responds, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick." (Mark 2:17). In other words: it is not the clean of slate that need Jesus, it’s the ones that need their slate cleaned. What a powerful statement!
Jesus is not waiting for us to fix ourselves before coming to Him. He knows that’s a great task for any of us! Instead, He meets us exactly where we are and calls us in—flaws, regrets, and all.
If Jesus would walk up to you today and said, "Follow me," what would you do? Would you hesitate, thinking you’re not good enough? Or would you trust that He sees something in you that you can’t yet see in yourself?
