What a powerful scene from The Chosen. The howling winds. The crashing waves against the boat. The disciples straining at the oars while fighting the storm in the dead of night. Fear gripped them—until they saw something even more terrifying: a figure walking across the water. Panic rose in their throats. But then came a voice that cut through the storm: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” And in that moment, the presence of Jesus turned fear into faith It certainly did for ​​Simon Peter.

In the clip from The Chosen, the change is captured powerfully when he says to Jesus, “If you are who you say you are, bid me to step out of this boat.” Jesus replies, “Do you have the faith to walk on this water?” Simon Peter answers, “Absolutely. You can do whatever you command, and if you command the water to hold me, I will walk on it.” Jesus then says, “If I call you to me,​​ you will step out in faith? Come to me, you weary and heavy-laden, I will give you rest.” And Simon Peter stepped out of the boat at Jesus’ word, and he began to walk toward Him.

But as soon as Simon Peter shifted his eyes from Jesus to the wind and the waves, fear set in, and he began to sink. Instantly, Jesus reached out His hand and caught him, saying, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:31) The lesson is clear: the storm may rage, but faith grows when ​​your eyes stay fixed on God. Even when you stumble, His hand is strong and lifts you up. In every storm of life, His presence beckons you to peace and brings you peace, and His call invites you to trust Him, one step at a time.
