Stone in Hand; Faith in Heart

DAY 3 OF 3

True victory is achieved by overcoming life’s obstacles

Before David ever faced Goliath, he had to face other obstacles—obstacles not made of armour and spear, but of words, doubts, and dismissals.

  • From his brothers: His own family questioned his motives and mocked his zeal. Eliab dismissed him as arrogant and immature.
  • From his king: Saul, the leader of Israel, looked at David’s youth and inexperience and doubted he could succeed.
  • From his enemy: Goliath ridiculed him openly, mocking his size, his weapons, and his faith.

Each obstacle had the potential to stop David before the battle even began. And yet, he pressed on. He refused to let family criticism define him, authority’s doubt discourage him, or the enemy’s insults intimidate him. His focus was not on their words but on God’s faithfulness.

Here’s the truth: Every God-given victory will be preceded by obstacles. Before you see the giant fall, you’ll face voices that say you’re not enough, that you don’t belong, that your faith is foolish. The battle begins in your heart—overcoming doubt, rejection, and fear—before you ever pick up a sling.

David’s greatest triumph wasn’t just killing Goliath; it was persevering through every obstacle that tried to keep him from even stepping onto the battlefield.

Reflection

Obstacles are not signs that you’re on the wrong path—they’re often confirmations that you’re on the right one. Before every great victory comes a series of tests designed to shake your confidence. The key is to keep your eyes fixed on God, not the voices around you.

Application

  • Expect opposition. Don’t be surprised when criticism, doubt, or ridicule comes—it means you’re stepping into something significant.
  • Silence the wrong voices. Measure every word against God’s truth. What He says about you matters most.
  • Press forward in faith. Obstacles are not walls to stop you but hurdles to strengthen you.

Reflection Questions

  1. Which obstacle do I face most often—criticism, doubt, or intimidation?
  2. How can I replace those voices with God’s truth about me?
  3. What “next step” might I be hesitating to take because of the obstacles in front of me?

Takeaway

No victories come without obstacles. But every obstacle you overcome brings you one step closer to the giant’s fall.

Prayer:
Lord, give me courage to press through the obstacles—whether they come from others, from within, or from the enemy. Teach me to hear Your voice above every other voice, and to keep moving forward until the victory is won. Amen.
