Holy, Healthy, Whole: Growing Fruits of the Spirit for Weight Loss and WellnessSample

Are You Meek?
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5 (NIV)
Can I be honest and say this passage has never been a favorite of mine?
Blessed are the meek. Um, no, thank you.
Whenever I’m thinking of traits I admire in others, meek is not one of the top ones that comes to mind.
I don’t want to be considered meek. I want to speak out and stand up for what’s right.
What does meek mean, and why would Jesus say that meek people are blessed?
As I researched this topic, one explanation I read said that being meek is the opposite of being timid. Being timid is often a result of lacking trust in God, while meekness is the quiet strength that comes from trusting God to guide you.
The Greek word for meek is praus, which can be translated as "power under control." Jesus was the ultimate example of this during His earthly ministry.
Become more like Jesus today by growing in meekness. You have the ultimate power within you, yet it is controlled because you have the strength of the Holy Spirit.
Reflection: How can you develop meekness in your life, especially in the areas of food and weight?
Prayer: Jesus, to be honest, I have avoided being meek. Now I understand that meekness is incredibly powerful. Grow meekness in me so that I have power under control, especially when it comes to eating. Thank you for giving me this strength that only comes from You. Amen.
