Christmas: A Season of MiraclesSample

The Miracle of Worship
Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them. (Luke 2:20 NKJV)
My favorite part of Christmas is worshiping with my church family on Christmas Eve. When everyone lights a candle and sings “Silent Night,” my whole being lights up! Although I’m there to praise God, He still lifts my spirit as I worship Him.
I fully believe that deepening your sense of wonder for God will lead to greater worship to God. Then, in turn, your worship will lead to a greater sense of wonder. This is a beautiful way to grow your delight in your heavenly Father.
Each of the people mentioned yesterday had their wonder lead to worship:
- When John the Baptist leapt in her womb, Elizabeth praised the Lord for drawing near to her (Luke 1:43-45). In response, Mary worshiped God for the “great things” He did for her (Luke 1:49).
- The shepherds glorified and praised God for their wondrous experience of hearing from the angel and heavenly host (Luke 2:20).
- After their excitement over the Bethlehem star, the wise men followed it to worship Jesus (Matthew 2:11).
Everything God gives us is meant to inspire our hearts to worship. True worship is not just singing our favorite Christmas carols; true worship is a lifestyle focused on God. Each day, I speak my Bible confessions in the morning, and I live in the Word and prayer. These small places of worship open me up to a greater sense of wonder throughout my day.
The more we look to God, the more we expect Him to be good! A life of wonder and worship is the platform for receiving miracles!
Reflection
Meditate on Luke 2:20. Like the shepherds, how can you choose to worship God today?

About this Plan

We should never be too busy for God, but that’s the story for far too many of us at Christmas time! If the God of the universe came to save us as the greatest act of love, why would we not set aside time each day to marvel in His presence and to glorify Him? This 5-day devotional will encourage you to slow down, to reengage with the Christmas story, and to meditate on the miracle and joy of Jesus Christ entering our world!
