There’s Still Water

DAY 1 OF 7

Yahweh

Yahweh was the name God used to introduce himself to Moses. Moses, the man who would witness God's power through the plagues in Egypt, the parting of the Red Sea, the writing of the ten commandments, and victory in battle against the Amalekites—just to name a few! The name Yahweh is the personal name of God. This name has been traditionally considered to be so sacred that it is usually just translated as “LORD” in most English Bibles. It is the name that he used to declare his eternal power and unchanging reign. But it is also the name he used to personally connect to his people. The grand victory and intimate closeness in the name “Yahweh” is an unmatched combination of power and love.

In the time after my divorce, I continuously cried out to Yahweh for my children. In my eyes, this unexpected divorce threatened to take away so much of the life that I longed to give my children. All my mind could focus on was the major gaps they would have in their lives due to growing up in a broken family. The only step I was confident in was showing up to church every Sunday. I knew that showing up, getting connected in community, and deepening my walk with Jesus would be my way to heal. I prayed and hoped that in my own healing, the grip of those gaps over my children would loosen.

A few months into my continued commitment to church, my daughter fell during an event and started to cry. I was far enough away to see her fall, but not close enough to get to her quickly. In an instant, someone near her scooped her up and brought her to me. Someone else had provided capable and loving hands when I couldn't. Aware of Yahweh's presence, I had a reality of truth become clear to me: “This church will help you raise your kids. The gaps will be filled.” I had known that God was with us, even in the midst of my divorce. But this real-life visual awakened an assurance of the victorious love of Yahweh. His love was poured out in the helping hands of another. He declared his victory over the gaps.

Our God holds the victory. Yahweh is victorious in battles as great as the Israelites' deliverance from Egypt, all the way to the internal battles that plague our minds. Yahweh paved the path to salvation for all of us. Our role is to honor him in praise! We must rejoice. We must sing praises. Forever it is our job to bring him our praise, because he has forever been and forever will be Yahweh. Our intimately loving and eternally victorious Yahweh.

Prayer:

Yahweh, forever I desire to bring you praise. You are the “I AM.” You are full of a victorious love that can only be experienced through my relationship with you. I am so blessed that you welcome me into a personal and loving relationship. Thank you for being the same yesterday, today, and forevermore! Thank you for claiming the victory over my life! Amen.
