Meditating on God's GreatnessSample

Gratitude and dependence
“Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; He gives to the beasts their food, and to the young ravens that cry. His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor His pleasure in the legs of a man, but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His steadfast love.” (Psalm 147:7-11 ESV)
An old saying goes, “The richest person is not the one who has the most, but the one who needs the least.” Another, attributed to Seneca, states: “It is not the man who has little, but he who desires more, that is poor.” Both lead us to the same conclusion: true wealth is found in gratitude.
Gratitude is an attitude that transforms our perception. It lifts us above eagerness and ambition and places us in a position of reverence and trust in God. When we recognize that He cares for the ravens and the cattle, we understand that He also cares for us.
God does not delight in human strength, nor in our self-sufficiency. His favor is poured out on those who fear Him and hope in His mercy. This is an active dependence that seeks His Kingdom first, knowing that all else will follow (Matthew 6:33).
Paul summed it up this way: “If we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.” (1 Timothy 6:8).
What does your life reflect: Anxiety or gratitude? Fear or confidence? Sing to the Lord today with thanksgiving and rest in His faithful provision.
