The Whole Armor of GodSample

The Breastplate of Righteousness
The soldier’s breastplate protects the torso, heart, and lungs from both the front and back. Just as the soldier’s breastplate protects the chest from physical attacks, the breastplate of righteousness guards believers against the spiritual assaults from the devil and his minions.
Our position in Christ has already been established. Paul encourages us: “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 8:1 ESV).
Isaiah prophesied of Christ and described Him as one who was girded with righteousness and faithfulness. Jesus is our righteousness (Is. 11:1-5 ESV)!
Paul also wrote about our sanctification, emphasizing that our pursuit of righteousness is rooted in Scripture. The Christian’s protection against the devil comes from walking in righteousness. We must put on the breastplate of righteousness and actively choose to live according to God’s will and commandments, aligning our thoughts and actions with His Word. This requires a strong determination and a conscious effort to resist temptation, pursue holiness, and rely on God’s strength. But what does this look like in our daily lives?
- We diligently study God’s Word to understand His commands, which define righteousness.
- We resolve to make righteous choices daily, seeking God’s guidance.
- We determine to submit to God and resist the devil when we are faced with temptation.
- We proactively observe and identify where we are tempted and ask God for the desire, strength, and grace to overcome.
- We renew our commitment each morning to pursue righteousness and ask God to empower us to live righteously.
- We pray for God’s help daily, all day, to live according to His Spirit.
- We watch over our thoughts carefully, recognizing that every action begins with a thought and bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
- We lovingly remind ourselves not to rely on our own strength: Power and righteousness come from Christ. We can rely on His strength and grace.
Reflect upon these resolutions and ask the Lord to show you where you need to grow in your pursuit of righteousness.

About this Plan

As believers in Christ, we must not only learn how to walk in Christ, but we must also stand firm in Him! The Lord has given us all the armor we need, but we need help knowing how to use it. This seven-day plan is designed to help us understand the armor God has given us and be equipped to use it.
