Why Do We Worship?

DAY 6 OF 6

The Psalms of Ascent were sung on the steps of the temple in Jerusalem. Worshipers would literally climb higher as they sang—step by step—physically rising as they spiritually focused.

Psalm 124 ends at the top of the stairs, so to speak:

A bold proclamation of confidence: “Our help is in the name of the LORD.”

You might be halfway up the steps right now. You don’t know what’s coming next.
A meeting. A medical result. A major decision.
And it feels safer to worry than to worship.

But worship is what prepares your spirit for what comes next.
It reminds your heart that the Maker of all things is still making a way for you.

So, climb the steps. Lift your eyes. Let worship lift your perspective.

How can worship today help you rise above fear, and see your week from God’s perspective?

Prayer:
Lord, as I climb the steps of life, help me not to focus on how steep they feel—but on who walks with me. Remind me that my help is not in my own strength, but in You.

About this Plan

Why Do We Worship?

If you approach worship from a consumer perspective—asking, “What do I get out of this?”—you will miss the true purpose of worship. Worship is not about personal preference, entertainment, or convenience; it’s about centering our hearts on God and giving Him the glory He deserves. When we reduce worship to what pleases us, we place ourselves at the center instead of God. True worship shifts the focus away from our wants and toward the worthiness of the One who created us, redeemed us, and reigns over us.
