Throughout your day, you make thousands of small decisions about how you live. Do you choose to cheat in some small way, or do you maintain integrity in everything you do? Are your behavior and attitudes motivated by pride or by humility? Are you faithful in your relationships with coworkers? Do you pursue wealth at all costs, or do you pursue righteousness? Do people at work know you for your blameless, impeccable character? Do you place your hope in other people, or do you fully hope in God? What about your speech? Can you be trusted to keep secrets and hold your tongue, or are you known as the office gossip? Do people say you are ruthless, cruel, deceptive, or a backstabber? Or do they refer to you as kindhearted and desiring good things for your coworkers and company? Do others recognize you for your generosity with your time and abilities?
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, you can live a life of integrity, refusing to be tempted to use the world’s methods of “getting ahead.” Thanks be to God, it is possible to escape the temptations of your workplace and to resist the devil. Yes, Jesus understands your temptations, for he was tempted in every way we are, yet he did not sin. In fact, God will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. And when you are tempted, God will provide a way out so that you can endure it (1 Cor. 10:13).
Because Jesus is alive, you can choose to work with integrity, humbly pursuing righteousness with your hope firmly placed in God. May you be known as one who holds your tongue. Honor your employer and coworkers by being kind-hearted and generous, spreading seeds of righteousness, and seeking the good of your coworkers and employer.
Then you will know the favor of the Lord. Your path will be straight, even when facing difficult choices. You will be like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding fruit in season and bringing shade and beauty where you live and work.
Prayer
Almighty God, I know that you understand the temptations I face today. I ask for your mercy and grace to help me in my time of need. Don’t let me yield to temptation but rescue me from the Evil One. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
