The living, the living—they praise you, as I am doing today; parents tell their children about your faithfulness.

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it. … Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far away.

Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die. Be careful and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.
