Lift Up Your EyesSample

Lift Your Eyes to the Holy One
When life feels shaky, where do your eyes go first?
Isaiah’s world was unsettled. A king had died and people were unsure what would happen next. Right in that moment, Isaiah says he “saw the Lord, high and exalted” (Isaiah 6:1, NIV). Heaven’s throne was not empty. God was not nervous. The train of His robe filled the temple. The room shook. Angels cried out, “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory” (Isaiah 6:3, NIV).
Holiness can sound like a hard word, but think of it this way: Holiness means God is wonderfully different from anything broken or small. He is pure goodness. He is bright with love. His glory is the beautiful effect of who He is. Isaiah felt the weight of that, and so do we. When we see God’s greatness, we see our limits, too. Isaiah blurted out, “Woe to me” (Isaiah 6:5, NIV). He knew his words and his world needed help.
Look at how God responds. A seraph touched Isaiah’s lips with a live coal from the altar, then said, “Your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for” (Isaiah 6:7, NIV). That is mercy. God reveals Himself and then reaches out to cleanse. A simple way to say Isaiah 6:7 is this: God removed Isaiah’s guilt and forgave him completely. In Jesus, God draws even closer. John explains that “the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” and that we have seen His glory, full of grace and truth (John 1:14, NIV). As we keep looking to Jesus, something changes in us. Paul says we are being transformed as we “contemplate the Lord’s glory” (2 Corinthians 3:18, NIV).
Here is the invitation. When life feels shaky, lift your eyes a little higher. Worship is not pretending your problems are small. Worship reminds you that God is big, kind, and present. Isaiah shows us a holy God who loves to make people whole. That truth can steady your breathing and brighten your outlook today.
Prayer: Holy God, I look up to You. You are great and good. Please cleanse my heart, calm my thoughts, and fill me with Your peace. Let Your holiness shape how I speak and how I love people today. Amen.
