Finding Jesus in 5 Psalms: Celebrating the Work and Character of ChristSample

Let the Whole Earth Rejoice: Psalm 98
We have so many reasons to sing to the Lord, but there is no greater reason than what He has done through His Son. God kept His promise and provided a way for us to be with Him for eternity. Because of this, we have been given all things pertaining to life and godliness.
God is so generous! When we think of salvation, we rightly think of the gospel. God provides salvation through His Son. But in this psalm, we discover that we can rejoice because God has done many wonderful and marvelous things.
To those alive during the Old Testament era, salvation could refer to Israel’s deliverance from slavery or to God’s protection of His people from their enemies. For us today, this can have other meanings. I can think of many times God gave a no answer to my prayers, essentially saving me from something that wasn’t His best for me. In whatever way the Lord has saved you, we all—not just us, but everyone on the earth—are called to a specific response: rejoice.
People everywhere are told to make a joyful noise and sing praises. Jesus is the light of the world. In Him there is no darkness. In Jesus is peace, joy, love, patience, and so much more. The whole world will one day rejoice. But today, we get to share about the baby in a manger who takes away the sins of the world!
Not only are the inhabitants of the earth to rejoice, but all of creation will one day join in singing to the Lord. The earth is groaning, waiting for the day when Jesus will make all things new. What a sight it will be to see creation rejoice! Perhaps what Psalm 98 describes isn’t literal, but I love the picture of creation clapping and singing.
Jesus is worthy of our praise. As we celebrate His birth, sing a new song to Him. Or sing the old and faithful hymn “Joy to the World.” Behold, the Lord has come!
Oh, the wonders of Your love, Lord! How glorious and majestic is Your name in all the earth. Thank You for the hope we have for today and for tomorrow. We delight in You and worship You today. Lord, help us to fix our eyes on You every day. Thank You for Your everlasting love and kindness. In Your name I pray, amen.
