O God, You Are My GodSample

O God, You Are My God

DAY 6 OF 12

Love and Obedience

In Psalm 63:1 ESV, David proclaims, “O God, you are my God.” We want to declare with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength: “O God, you are my God!” This confession is key because our love, devotion, and trust in Him impact how we think about and respond to the Bible, which in turn impacts how we obey and apply the Bible to our lives. Love cannot be separated from obedience. Our doctrine—or set of beliefs—determines our deeds, because our doctrine is derived from what we saturate ourselves in, whether it is God’s Word or something else (like culture or academia or family/parental influence, etc.). Whether we realize it or not, we all hold to a set of beliefs that rule how we respond to life. The Lord calls us to be zealous in our love for Him, for His Word, and for good deeds, all for His pleasure and His glory. If we love Him with our all, we will embrace His Word, and we will obey Him (Jn. 14:15 ESV). God will be our God. May He make this so.

On your journey to seek God earnestly, be intentional and make a commitment to daily pursue an intimate relationship with Him. Designate a place and dedicate a special time to be alone with the Lord. Ask the Lord for His help to do this. Also, if you miss your time with Him or your regular time does not work on a particular day, do not beat yourself up, but do not ignore it either. Make a “date” for another time that day. “Earnestly I seek you” (Ps. 63:1 ESV) sounds like a simple thing to say, but it is significant. David made a conscious decision of faith, in keeping with God’s Word, that there was one thing he would seek after with his all. David determined that no matter what was happening in his world or who and what were screaming for his attention, he would focus all of his being toward this one purpose. No matter what anyone else said was important, he made time to be with God and would earnestly seek after Him.

Will you determine, like David, that no matter what is happening in the world or who is demanding your attention, you will focus all of your purpose on God and earnestly seek Him above all?
