Come, Follow Me: A 30 Day Journey With JesusSample

Not long before his own crucifixion, Jesus hears that his dear friend Lazarus is dying. Instead of rushing to his friend’s side, Jesus waits. Lazarus dies and Jesus heads for Bethany. His arrival brings mixed reactions from Lazarus’ sisters, Mary and Martha. Jesus, moved by the grief for his friend, is taken to the tomb. What comes next forms the shortest verse in scripture. “Jesus wept” John 11:35.
What caused Jesus to weep? He already knows that this is not the end for Lazarus. Is it the similarity to what awaits him that strikes so deeply? Scripture doesn’t make it clear, but we see Jesus call his friend out. Out of decay, out of the grave clothes. If there was ever a precursor to what was to come for Jesus, here it was for all to see.
Based on your reading today, how is God calling you to Follow Him? Consider any attitudes to adopt, actions to include, or responses to offer.
