DAY 5 OF 14

Day 5: Who’s Your Doppelganger?

Not long after my first silent prayer retreat, I began leading quarterly “soul care days” for our leadership team. We would set aside hours to be away from the noise, to be still with God, and to let Him refresh our inner lives. It was a gift to watch people come back renewed and deeply connected to Jesus.

But one day, as I walked down a dim back hallway, a member of our production team stopped me. “Today was soul care day for the team, PK?” he asked.

“Yes,” I replied.

He hesitated, looking at the floor, and then said something that stopped me cold: “I have a soul, too.”

It was more than a statement—it was a plea. He was reminding me that titles don’t determine who needs soul care. Every human being has a soul, and every soul needs to be cared for. From that day forward, everyone on staff was included in those soul care moments. Souls matter—yours included.

Scripture tells us why. “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place” (Psalm 139:13-15, NIV). God Himself knit you together. You’re not an accident. You’re intentionally created, designed with detail and dignity.

In Genesis, we see the source of that worth: “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them” (Genesis 1:27, NIV). That phrase—in the image of God—means you carry His imprint. You reflect His nature, His values, and His purpose in a way no other part of creation can. You may resemble your parents or share features with a sibling, but your truest likeness—your real “doppelganger”—is the One who made you.

The problem is, life has a way of scratching and smudging that image. Sin, shame, and brokenness distort the reflection we were meant to bear. But the gospel is that God didn’t leave us in that condition. “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace” (Ephesians 1:7, NIV). Through Jesus, the image is restored, the dirt is washed away, and our value is reaffirmed.

No matter how much you’ve been through, the royal seal of the King is still on you. That’s reason enough to pause today—not to prove your worth, but to remember it. Your Creator says you matter. Your Redeemer says you’re forgiven. And the Spirit within you says you’re never alone.

Reflection:
What would change in the way you live, work, and rest if you truly believed you are created in God’s image? How can you pause today to thank Him for the worth He’s already given you?
