Steady in the Valley: A 7-Day Leadership Devotional

DAY 7 OF 9

One People, One Purpose: Leadership for Unity

God's Word

“And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand... And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all... Moreover, I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore...” (Ezekiel 37:17, 22, 26, KJV); Ezekiel 37:15–28 (KJV)

Leadership Reflection

The valley has been visited. The bones have been seen, spoken to, reassembled, and filled with breath. Hope has been restored. But God is not finished. In the final section of this chapter, He moves beyond individual restoration and gives Ezekiel a vision of collective unity and divine purpose.

God tells Ezekiel to take two sticks, one for Judah and one for Joseph, and join them together (Ezekiel 37:16–17, KJV). These divided kingdoms, separated by years of tension, conflict, and exile, are now to become one in God's hand. “And they shall become one in thine hand” (Ezekiel 37:17, KJV). This is more than a political reunion. It is a prophetic sign of healing, wholeness, and identity restored.

Throughout the passage, we hear the language of covenant: “one nation,” “one king,” “one shepherd,” “everlasting covenant,” “my sanctuary in their midst” (Ezekiel 37:22–28, KJV). This is the final fruit of intentional transformation: not just breath in individual lungs, but oneness in the people of God.

This matters deeply for leaders today. Fragmented teams, divided communities, and divided selves often magnify the pressures we carry. We lead through tensions between vision and reality, calling and capacity, weariness and faith. But God's ultimate desire is not just our personal revival. It is our unified participation in His greater purpose.

God is forming a people. Not scattered survivors, but a living, breathing, restored community gathered under one King, aligned in covenant, and grounded in worship. His promise is not only restoration, but placement. “I will place them, and multiply them” (Ezekiel 37:26, KJV). Where once there was exile and loss, now there is purpose and peace.

We see this promise echoed in the New Testament. Jesus prayed, “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee” (John 17:21, KJV). The cross and resurrection were not just to bring us back to life, but to bring us together in Him. Unity is not a strategy; it is a result of divine transformation.

As we close this seven-day journey, let this truth settle in your spirit: God is not only restoring what was broken in you, He is calling you into a larger whole. You are not being revived in isolation. You are being prepared to stand with others, to lead with integrity, to live in alignment, and to carry His presence together.

Soul Check

  • Where do you feel divided, both internally or externally?
  • What part of you is ready to move from restoration to alignment?
  • Who is God calling you to walk with as you step into renewed purpose?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for not only restoring my life but also inviting me into something bigger than myself. Heal what has been divided in me and among us. Unite what has been scattered. Let my leadership, my relationships, and my worship reflect Your oneness. Make me part of Your lasting covenant, and let Your sanctuary dwell in me and among us. Amen.
