Where Are You, God? 30 First Encounters With GodSample

The Global Vision Fulfilled in the Future (Days 29-30)
Day 29: The Seven Churches - Asia Minor Reached
From his exile on the island of Patmos, the apostle John received a vision that would close the circle of God's progressive revelation. What began with God speaking creation into existence culminates with Jesus speaking directly to His churches scattered across the known world.
John writes, "I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet" (Revelation 1:10). The voice commanded John to write what he saw and send it to seven churches in Asia Minor—modern-day Turkey. These weren't random selections but strategic representatives of the diverse Christian communities that had emerged across the Roman Empire.
Although they addressed issues happening at the time, they also represent struggles that churches face now and in the future.
Christ Among His Churches
John's vision was breathtaking: "Among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest" (Revelation 1:13). This was Jesus in His glorified state, walking among seven golden lampstands representing the churches. His presence wasn't distant—He was intimately involved with each community.
Diverse Communities, Individual Messages
Each church received a personalized message addressing their unique circumstances. Ephesus had lost their first love despite their doctrinal correctness. Philadelphia remained faithful despite having little strength. Laodicea had become lukewarm in their prosperity.
The geographic spread was significant—from Ephesus on the coast to Laodicea inland, these churches represented different cultures, economic conditions, and spiritual challenges.
The Global Vision
One way to interpret John’s vision is that these seven churches symbolize the complete Church—God's people spread across every continent and culture. The number seven represents completeness in biblical symbolism, suggesting that Christ's message extends to all His followers everywhere.
What started with twelve disciples in Jerusalem has grown into diverse communities spanning continents. Today and until Jesus returns, the Good News will continue to spread and the global Church will continue to grow.
Victory Promised
To each church, Jesus promised rewards for those who overcome. These weren't just individual promises but corporate victories—entire communities will experience Christ's triumph. The vision points toward a future when believers from every nation will worship together.
Still Speaking
Christ continues walking among His churches today. His voice still reaches diverse communities across every continent, speaking specific words for specific needs. The global Church that began with a few disciples is becoming exactly what He envisioned—a worldwide family hearing His voice in every language and culture.
