Jesus Walks on Water
Water cannot be walked on. That’s just a fact. We humans cannot walk on water, and if we tried, we would sink. Only Simon Peter ever tried it and lived to tell the tale. Jesus, the One whose Spirit was hovering over the waters at creation, had an edge, being the Creator of the universe. He obviously was able to change the surface tension of the water molecules and walk on it because, well He created every atom and molecule there ever was and will ever be.
Nothing is impossible with God because He holds together everything in the universe.
The Message version of Colossians 1:15-20 confirms this:
“We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created. For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels—everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment. And when it comes to the church, he organizes and holds it together, like a head does a body. He was supreme in the beginning and—leading the resurrection parade—he is supreme in the end. From beginning to end he’s there, towering far above everything, everyone. So spacious is he, so expansive, that everything of God finds its proper place in him without crowding. Not only that, but all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe—people and things, animals and atoms—get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, his blood that poured down from the cross.”
It makes sense that Jesus, the Author of all life, could effortlessly walk on water. What is impressive is that a mere man like us, Peter, could attempt the same, while keeping His gaze on Jesus.
What’s holding us back from stepping out of our boat into uncharted territory?
The miracle occurs the minute we step out of our comfort zone and start walking towards the place God has marked for us. As you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and take those faltering steps towards Him, He begins to straighten the path ahead of you and makes impossible things happen.
Have you been seated in your boat and waiting for Jesus to show up? Maybe it’s time for you to stand up and take that first step toward where He’s leading you. The miracle awaits you!
