The Single Mom Journey

DAY 6 OF 10

Day 6: Talking to God

As single moms, we often feel like we have to be the problem solvers. When something breaks, we figure out how to fix it. When our children need help, we do our best to provide the answer. At times, it can feel like we're being hit with one obstacle after another, all at once.

I remember crying out to the Lord for strength, guidance, wisdom, and grace. But many times, even after praying, I would still try to work things out on my own. Looking back, I realize I didn’t always rely on God the way I should have, but He was always faithful. He took care of us, just as He promised in His Word.

In Pennsylvania, everyone is required to get their car inspected each year. One particular year, my car failed the inspection, and I had no way to fix it. That meant we were without transportation — no car, no way to get anywhere. I’ll be honest, I was frustrated. But after spending time in prayer and fasting with a close friend, the Lord moved in a powerful way. Someone not only gave us a car, but also paid for the title transfer. God provided, just like He always does.

I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed and to wonder if God really sees or cares. But let me encourage you — He does. He loves you deeply and wants to walk with you through every challenge. There were many times when I carried a weight on my shoulders that I didn’t need to. All I had to do was give it to God.

I challenge you today: Don’t try to carry every burden or solve every problem alone. Talk to God, and let Him take the weight. He’s more than able — and He’s always willing to help.

Day 6: Challenge

In today’s world, we have more ways to communicate than ever before — texting, calling, messaging, social media, emails — the list goes on. Yet, even with all of these options, many of us still feel like we have no one to really talk to. As a single mom, you might miss having someone — a spouse — to share your thoughts, worries, emotions, and daily challenges with. That kind of loneliness can feel heavy.

Have you ever just wanted someone to talk to who truly understands you?

Here's the good news: you do have someone. You can talk to God.

Talking to God doesn’t require a password, a phone, or a Wi-Fi connection. You don’t need the perfect words or timing. You can start right where you are — in the middle of dishes, driving the kids to school, or lying in bed at night. God is always there, always listening, and He truly cares about everything on your heart.

King David in the Bible is a great example. He poured his heart out to God in times of joy, sadness, fear, and even failure. The book of Psalms is full of his honest, raw conversations with God. And even though David made mistakes, the Bible still calls him a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14; Acts 13:22). Why? Because he loved to be in communication with God.

So, what about you? Who do you turn to in both the highs and lows of life? Who will you turn to when the next storm comes?

James 5:16 (NKJV) says, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” That means your honest, heartfelt prayers to God are powerful and make a difference.

The next time you feel alone, start a conversation with God through prayer or by opening His Word. You’ll be amazed at how His peace and presence can replace that loneliness with comfort, hope, and joy.

Day 6: Action

Write a note to God thanking Him for the things He has done and is doing in your life. Talk to Him about your burdens and problems. Look back at this note often and see what God has done in your life.
