02 - LORD'S PRAYER - Jesus Taught Us How to Pray

DAY 6 OF 11

06 – Pray with Intimacy

Alongside sincerity and humility, Jesus also emphasized intimacy with God. He used this image: “Go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father who is unseen.”

This isn’t just about stepping into a physical room. It’s about entering the deepest place of the soul—our private inner life. Wherever we are, prayer invites us into intimate fellowship with the Father.

Only in personal, intimate prayer can we pour out our deepest secrets, confess our sins, share our dreams, and open the hidden chambers of our hearts to God. This kind of prayer removes every mask, leaving us transparent and real before Him.

The image of “going into your room” is powerful because it speaks of a space where we can be truly ourselves—authentic, unmasked, and free to pour out our hearts. And there, Jesus promises, “your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you” (Matthew 6:6).

In this secret place, we can worship, give thanks, and listen for His voice. There we discover true intimacy with the One who not only hears us, but also sees us.

As Jesus Himself said:
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:13–15, NIV)

Jesus calls us His friends—His close, intimate friends.

About this Plan

02 - LORD'S PRAYER - Jesus Taught Us How to Pray

My dear friends, in the Sermon on the Mount—the longest recorded discourse of Jesus Christ in the Gospels—we find the prayer known as the “Our Father” or the “Lord’s Prayer.” Before teaching His disciples this prayer, Jesus first taught them how to pray. That is the focus of this series of reflections: what the right posture is when we approach God in prayer. Not the physical posture—whether kneeling, standing, sitting, or lying down—but the posture of the heart!
