SUPREMACY of JESUS CHRISTSample

Anchoring Our Faith in the Supremacy of Christ
Scripture: Colossians 1:15-23 (NLT)
“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation”
Devotional Focus:
Today, we begin our journey into understanding the supremacy of Christ—His unrivaled authority, power, and sufficiency. In a world filled with distractions and false teachings, we are called to anchor our faith in the truth that Christ is God, the Creator and Sustainer of all things, and the Head of the Church. This devotion will help you reflect on Christ’s supreme nature and inspire you to live boldly for Him.
Reflection:
The Apostle Paul wrote to the Colossians to counter false teachings that diminished Christ’s divine nature and sufficiency. Today, similar distractions—whether through cultural practices, philosophies, or spiritual trends—can pull us away from the truth of who Christ is. Colossians 1:15-23 reminds us that Jesus is not just a historical figure or a good teacher; He is the visible image of the invisible God, the Creator of all things, and the One who reconciles us to God through His sacrifice.
Consider this:
- Christ is God (Colossians 1:15,19). When we see Jesus, we see the fullness of God. His divine nature assures us that placing our faith in Him is placing our faith in God Himself.
- Christ is the Creator and Sustainer (Colossians 1:16-17). Everything exists through Him and for Him. Every breath you take is a gift sustained by His power.
- Christ is the Head of the Church (Colossians 1:18-20). He alone purchased our salvation with His blood, and His resurrection guarantees victory over death. No other mediator or practice is needed to be reconciled to God.
As we begin this Easter series, let’s refocus on the centrality of Christ, especially in a season where traditions like Easter egg hunts or cultural practices can distract from His supremacy. Christ’s love, wisdom, power, sacrifice, resurrection, and authority are unmatched and sufficient for all our needs.
Application:
- Worship Christ Alone: Reflect on whether there are “idols” (e.g., philosophies, trends, or practices) competing for your devotion. Commit to exalting Christ above all else in your thoughts, actions, and worship.
- Strengthen Your Faith: Spend time meditating on Colossians 1:15-23. Write down one truth about Christ’s supremacy that stands out to you and how it encourages you to trust Him more.
- Share the Gospel: This Easter season, purpose to share the Good News with at least one person. Pray for an opportunity to boldly proclaim Christ’s sufficiency for salvation.
- Stand Firm: Like believers in persecuted regions (e.g., Syria or Congo), where standing for Christ can cost everything, resolve to hold fast to the truth of the Gospel without drifting away (Colossians 1:23).
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Yourself through Jesus Christ, the visible image of the invisible God. Help me to anchor my faith in His supremacy, trusting that He is sufficient for my salvation and every need. Remove any distractions or false beliefs that diminish His greatness in my life. Give me the courage to worship Christ alone and share His Gospel with others. May I stand firm in the truth, living boldly for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Action Step:
Take 5-10 minutes today to journal or pray about an area of your life where you need to trust in Christ’s sufficiency. Ask God to deepen your conviction in His supremacy and give you boldness to live and share the Gospel. Consider reaching out to someone this week to share the message of Christ’s love and sacrifice.
Closing Thought:
Because Christ is supreme, He is sufficient. You are complete in Him when you place your faith in Him (Colossians 2:9). Let this truth empower you to live with bold, strong, and courageous faith this Easter season and beyond.
